I've been doing a lot more discovery and am finding quite a bit using Sentinel. Wondering if Proscan has more features and if it is worth trying? Thanks.

I just got my SDS100 last week. After spending hours in Sentinel customizing channel names so they look decent on the SDS100 I installed ProScan. I wish I'd done that from the start. ProScan's edit capabilities are far superior, particularly if you're relabeling blocks of channels that follow a similar pattern where find/replace can be used. I'd concur with the others that both Sentinel and ProScan have their specialties.

I use Sentinel just for the profile settings, to get them done quickly. I don’t use the database so updating that isn’t relevant for me. I tried to do some programming in it and found it tedious, dreadfully slow, and annoying.

ProScan is miles above Sentinel in terms of programming ease I feel. Less leaps and hops to do easy things, probably a quarter of the number of clicks. The logging is wonderful.

As others said, the 30 day full featured trial is generous and lets you test pilot nicely. But I feel for anyone programming a fair bit, it’s the best of the best.

Bob took a suggestion I had and whipped it up basically the same day, ready to ship in the next version. Can’t beat that kind of customer service, especially with how active he is on here for any help.

As noted above, Sentinel is a program that will get your scanner up and running. It's the down and dirty basics mostly because it comes from Uniden who is a hardware manufacturer. ProScan and ARC 536 Pro are more robust scanners when it comes to Favorites List editing and logging.

To get the very most out of your scanner, you should be come proficient with Sentinel and ProScan or ARC 536 Pro.

I kinda now wish I had gone with ProScan over the ARC products. ProScan works with more scanner models, so it is less costly than ARC.

Like quite a few others on here, I use both and highly recommend both. They both have their merits and once you have a good understanding what each will do you will not regret paying for ProScan. Bob is also very generous with his license.
