uniden sportcat SC 150 help

Hello all, i am new to scanning so any help will be greatly appreciated. i have an old uniden sportcat 150 that was my dads. is this type of scanner outdated? can i listen to local police / union and mecklenburg county on this scanner? if not could you recommend a good scanner for someone starting out?

I'm surprised no one has responded before now. Union County uses the Charlotte Regional Radio System. It operates in P25 digital mode, which means your SC 150 won't pick it up. There are several models both new and used that would monitor the system. I suggest reading in the wiki on this site about digital modulation, trunking, and digital scanners. Good luck!

I'm pretty sure some of Union Co public safety is still simulcasting on the old VHF-UHF frequencies. The database has the frequencies to try.
