I used to hear United (Expressjet) on their ops freq. of 130.4. They would call in range and also would call with their time off the runway, etc. Now I don't hear them at all. I've searched all the airline company freqs and checked the FCC licenses for my airport (KERI).

Does anyone know if this company frequency could not be in use because it is handled electronically now, with no voice transmissions involved? I don't hear static or anything on 130.4 anymore.

All company frequencies on the civilian aviation band are licensed to Aviation Spectrum Resources, Inc. which takes out separate licenses for each airline for every airport. So put in their name on the FCC database with your airport's location as the city to find their new ones.

Yes, I found their licenses and put all the freqs in, still nothing. I'm searching the range 128 MHZ-137MHZ too, and no results. The other 2 airlines here do use the licensed company freqs - it is just United that is silent.

Try these from the FCC using a Radius Search

Thanks. I tried all these yesterday and today - still nothing for United. I did read that ACARS handles a lot of the former departure company messages nationally, but the arrival transmissions are stilll by voice. I hear Delta and American, but no United.

Change your search range to 129-132 next time you're at the airport. 128-129 and 132-136 are for ATC and 136-137 is ACARS.

United uses ACARS almost exclusively for company communications since the merger with Continental.

ARINC/ASRI are allocated 128.800 to 132.000. The 136 MHz segment appears to be more fragmented.

I am hearing some comms on 130.4 for Expressjet. But so far only the ground station with no response from the planes. Still testing this.

Expressjet is owned by SkyWest, so they might not be communicating in the same way as the airlines with which they have regional agreements.

I have finally verified that Expressjet is using 130.4 at KERI for company ops. They use it when calling in range, but not to report time off the runway when departing. With only 3 flights a day, it took awhile to pin this down.

That makes sense. The airport needs to know right away when a flight is in range, but they aren't so interested in the ones that have just left. There might be too much of a delay in dispatch notification of a destination airport to rely on ACARS for close-in status updates.

I remember in the 80's and early 90's United would be using San Francisco Maintenance frequency located in the Air Ops frequency range somewhere around 129 Mhz if I recall it was a phone patch or a relay of some kind because you could here both the Air and Ground side. Does anyone know if these frequencies are still in use?

FYI, I heard a UAL plane near Denver using 130.4 today while airborne to report a maintenance issue. I only heard one side of the conversation, not sure where the base station is located.

ExpressJet EMB145 aircraft are 100% ACARS equipped. All on/off out/in times are handled via datalink and are completely automated with no direct input required from the crew. The in-irange report is also via datalink, but is manually sent by the crew about 30 minutes out. The only time you will hear an ExpressJet aircraft transmit these times via voice radio is if the ACARS is deferred on MEL or takes a dump inflight(happens sometimes)

Regarding ExpressJet dba. United express operating into KERI (or any out station), the only time you will hear them on the ops freq will be if there is an irregular operation such as arriving at the gate but no rampers or gate agent in sight (happens often) or you need more fuel or the stew needs more ice or whatever.
