Im running a ver of unitrunker from 04 on my toughtbook.
Here is my problem.
I have tried 4 different cables i have and none will work.

All of them work for monitoring every system, LTR and moto. Buuut it will not decode any edacs signas. I have it locked onto a motorola control chann and it works. Switch over to an edacs one and nothing.
Dont think its the cables because they all work on the other computers and laptops... just not this one for some reason. Any ideas why that could be?

LTR Analyzer works
UT for fleetnet works
UT for 800mhz trunked system works
edacs.. 800mhz.. no go

Make sure you have edac48 and edac96 boxes marked and your polarity set to auto.

Exit Unitrunker and run Uniscope on the EDACS signal. Please post a screen shot here. Set the Uniscope settings to match your Unitrunker receiver. Set the display option to "Oscilloscope". We'll take a look and go from there.

Turn the gain down on the audio input. The trace goes off screen which means the signal exceeds the capture range of the sound input.

Look at the following screen shots (made with a different version of the UniScope program) for comparison.

http://www.unitrunker.com/uniscope/

Scroll down to the EDACS 9600 baud section for some examples.

FYI: while PrtScn gives you a snapshot of the Windows desktop; typing ALT-PrtSc gives you a snapshot of the active window.

Well, sense that's a laptop, you only have mic in.(Unless you use an external sound card) Makes sure the 10db boost is off. Also, the sound of the signal, is it clear? No static, etc? You do have a good antenna to receive the control channel?

yep its off checked that fist. Its odd how i can decod fleetnet but not the edacs. I dont need an antenna since im so close to the towers for both. But im in chathamkent and cant decode the edacs sysem here either. And i hav full signal like i always have when i lived here and still nothing. But pop it over to fleetnet and i get 100% decode

If that's your EDACS signal then, no you aren't going to see anything useful. The reason a Motorola system works but an EDACS system doesn't is because the signals are structured differently. The biggest difference here is you are trying to monitor a signal with a rate of 9600 symbols per second - compared to a mild 3600 per second for Motorola.

The signal looks distorted, perhaps filtered, so let's focus on the discriminator tap.

What radio are you using?
Where is the tap located inside the radio?
What additional circuitry did you include when tapping the radio?

I must say I had a laptop one time that produce to much noise when it was running off the charger. I could hear it well when I would do some recording thru the mic. If you haven't try running it just on battery power and see if it will run that way.

Each radio i have all work on all the other computers with this same cable, and the other 4 cables i use. But i cant figure out why edacs will not work on the toughbook. Its starting to bug me haha

When i plug the cable into the laptop the sound stops working on the scanner. As if i turned the vol all theway down. Maybe its something with the port on the laptop and edacs?

I had that same problem when I wired a cable with the left and right ports together as mono. I have to use a stereo cable for that to work. But this did this on all signals.

On my desktop I had to ground my computer to ground with the antenna for it to work. It was not getting enough ground thru the audio patch cord. Without it you could hear the audio but unitrunker was not working with it till I ground the scanner over to the computer. You might want to jump a wire between the ground connector from the antennna to somewhere on the computer that you know is ground on it.

I found that if i cut a pair of head phones, spliced the wires togeather and plug that into the laptop it seems to work. just the wire is really short so kinda sucks. Since i use this laptop and my portable for mobile stuff. Need a longer cable.. So i guess its just the 4 cables are fine and the laptop is picky

Same Trouble

Hello UniTrunker,

I'm having the same trouble as Muxlow. I'm running Version 20 on a CF-28 ToughBook... No EDACS.
At Least not enough to get even 1 Red Bar, however It has found my site 5 times with no color in the signal meter (all black). The Scope looks good. I've tried it with 2 taped radios. Same Problem. The receivers work perfect with unitrunker on my Toshiba Satellite. Any thoughts?

Also, how can I transfer all my system info. from one cpu to another?

I have been unsuccessful with this after many hours of file transfers.

Thanks,

-Mark

You probably need to insert a resistor (and re-adjust recording levels).

Copy the Unitrunker.xml file. If you're using the default directory ... open a receiver window; click on the folder icon. When Windows Explorer appears, navigate UP one level. Look for the file there.

Thanks Unitrunker. I'll have to try the resistor. The files transferred great! Thanks again.
