Yeah, if the morse ID is coming from the same transmitter as the tones, I would check with whoever is licensed with the callsign KNKI693..... That isnt a ham call....

It is paging data. Licensee U-Page Inc. Oneonta, NY. 152.570 MHz. You are probably near one of the transmitter sites.

I considered this but there is nothing comming off of 152.570 but the data continues to be transmitted on the ham freq. The signal comes in very clear and doesnt sound like its jumping from another frequency.

Are you sure that the morse ID that can be heard in that file is on the same freq? Is it possible that maybe the scanner moved on to another freq? Because that ID deffinately comes back to a paging system they have multiple sites. It definately sounds like a paging system.

The only other thing that comes to mind is that maybe an amateur in your area is toying with paging, but if this was the case they would need to Identify them self somehow.

If it was truely on an amateur freq and not an amateur transmitting it I am sure some of the hams in your area would have already blown that into the FCC.

Just my thoughts...

I'd try monitoring that ham frequency on another radio, see if you hear it then...

Yup, I had it programmed onto every radio i could and it all recieved on the freq. I was unable to hear any activity on it yesterday. Im gonna see if my local ham group has any info.

Here is what I found on that license near him. It is possible the paging xmitter is putting out spurious rf into the ham band.

OXFORD, NY
County: CHENANGO

Freq Assigned: 00000152.57000000
Structure Type: Tower

It's definitely paging data. I would suspect you are correct, that the TX may be spurious. Then it may be simple front end overload. 152.57 - 147.145 = 5.425. 5.425 x 2 =10.85.
Could be an internally generated image freq. otherwise known as a "birdie". Uniden sometimes lists these in the user manual.

HAM radios are famous for having not-so-tight front ends. Most allow all sorts of off freq garbage in.

Same difference. Both tend to have very weak front ends. The better tranceivers and general communications receivers will do a good job and filter out the junk.

You get what you pay for.

Its back, ive been hearing the data on this freq all day today. I talked to a ham buddy of mine and he said there is in fact someone in the area playing with some paging on the ham band. Im rather interested to know what he is up to, it must be something cool.

Not necessarily. A ham band only rig would have better selectivity than a rig with general coverage rx. Assuming the CW ID'er is from the same source as the data, my vote now goes with a spur from the paging transmitter.

Besides, Quickcall has not said what radios he was hearing it on.

I'll put it this way:

Show me your "best" ham rig, and I'll show you a commerical radio that will out perform it. The single band radio's do tend to be a little better, but when the ham rigs squak on mulitple freq's from a paging transmitter or other non-splattering (public safety xmitters) from a few miles away, and the comericals do not...

My experiences are with ICOM's and Kenwoods. Both equally sucked (especially on UHF) in not so saturated RF areas.

As for what you are hearing, without some halfway decent service monitor/etc, its pure speculation. I still vote for a paging transmitter nearby. Many compaines bought the Motorola Nucleus which can put out 300 watts nicely, but are not known for going off freq.

I think I have heard this channel before and it sounds to me someone is sending out a kind of page radio signal for whatever reason I am not sure of never heard anybody talk on it before if this is the same channel.
