As for cell towers, a lot have been put on top of apartment buildings in NYC. Some farmers out here lease their property for towers too. We have a few towers out here that have fake branches attached to them.
Geez, I remember being at the Warren County Farmer's Fair in 1987, when a major phone company (AT&T?) had a demo table set up, with free cell phone calls to test out. I called the XYL using one of their new cell phones, which were quite bulky. Had a feeling these were going to take off. Heck, as hams, we were already using handhelds with access to repeaters with autopatch. That was just a taste of what was to come.
