Hello fellow nutmeggers! I'm looking for some information regarding frequency 249.9923 in the Torrington area. Was scanning through the bands with SDR when I came upon this signal. I haven't successfully found any information on it, through RR, Google and other means. I've attached a recording of the audio. When the audio switches over to what sounds more like static bursts, that is when I narrowed the bandwidth, but when I widened the bandwidth I got that data-like sound. I've also attached an image from SDRSharp with the waterfall display. Thank you :)
EDIT: Okay well, the site is saying this measly ~3.5MB audio file is too large for the server to process, as well as the screenshot.. so I've uploaded them to a third party site.

Download for the audio clip

250.000 MHz FM used to be a Navy data downlink freq which I believe has moved to newer satcoms. On my SDR I have a carrier there, but it's interference from my other radios on my desk. RR frequency database shows helicopter training AM mode for Santa Rosa (NGS) FLa. Your SDR will pick up a lot of local RFI near you especially if you are using an outside antenna.

Thank you so much! I'm brand new to SDR, any tips for differentiating between RFI and actual signals aside from the obvious such as receiving voice?

If you have anything electronic within a few yards of your set up, you can try turning them off and see if the signal dissapears on your SDR. You can also try disconnecting the antenna to see if the signal is still there; if it is, in that case it is probably interference from something nearby. With practice you'll become an expert in no time!
You can always ask on the forums here for help if you're not sure; with all the knowledgeable people here someone will be sure to give advice.
I was searching the milair band on my airspy one evening and I was sure I stumbled on a data freq in the old 245 - 270 MHz satcom band in FM mode. Turned out my wife turned on the upstairs tv and when I started turning items off the signal dissapeared when that tv was turned off.

Well, there certainly is no shortage of electronics in here lol. Thank you so much for the advice and I'll definitely be reading the SDR forum :)
