It seems a little on the obvious side, but what do I know? It will be interesting to see what this comprises.

Didn't the HP1 come out a bit after his earlier avatar change?

I'm guessing it will add some requested features as well as some highly unexpected advanced enhancements.

But that's just me.

Sorry for the second post I didn't see this thread.
Least it got the topic going again.

Can't wait for the updates

The wait to be disappointed.............

The HP, as well as the 396XT, fall well short of the hype. Neither perform very well. I know that is subject to opinion, and that is mine.

I want to love them both. Every time I put the 500 or 197 away and vow to use the Unidens I find myself reverting back within hours.

Again, not a slam on Uniden or UPMan, they just don't work as well as the GREs for my style and conditions.

Agreed. I love the size, cosmetics and features of the 396XT but I too always end up back at my Pro-106. Can't wait to see what features are coming for the HP-1 though. Hopefully these are features that can be added (aka firmware) and not a new model (like the T to the XT) revision coming out.

Here's hoping for the XT Extreme Makeover avatar in the near future

Again this is just my two cents.......

I travel 100% for my job. Last year I was in 200 cities in 3 countries. I often run the XT and 500 side by side. For a time I also took the HP with me to learn it. GRE typically works better and is easier to get around on the fly. There are times when the Uniden products shined. But the times they didn't far out weighed the good.

Many here listen to the same systems all the time. My experience over hundreds of systems keeps me going back to GRE.

I met UPMan just before the release of the HP. He went out of his way to give me a tour of Uniden. We talked for over an hour about GRE vs Uniden one on one. I was told the HP was going to rock the world and I would be happier with the XT than my T. Sorry to say neither came true. I had a similar experience with Marshal. In fact I called him a few mouths ago telling him of my frustrations. He said hang on..... Something cool is coming. Again I wait........

Bottom line is I want to believe! I just don't see it and have years of experience on every major trunk system in the US and Canada as well has hundreds of analog systems to back me up.

As I said earlier, this is not a slam at UPMan, Uniden or Marshal. They believe in the product and have success with it. Unfotunetly I don't.

Its really up to the user i think, here on the ILL-700/800 Digital StateWide Starcom my 396XT decodes excellent where as the GRE500 has alot of trouble and sits there flickering and showing TG's with no audio where even thru cell tower areas the 396XT is 99 % perfect....Im hoping there will be a firmware upgrade for the 396XT and 996XT for when Starcom upgrades to "Phase11-TDMA....
