A fatal collision between a truck and a pedestrian has forced the closure of all lanes of westbound U-S Highway 36 near Superior.
The Colorado State Patrol says a male motorist parked his disabled Jeep Cherokee on the right side of the road and started to step out of the vehicle.
That's when a delivery-type truck hit the man as he stepped into a traffic lane.
Master Trooper Ron Watkins says there was no way the truck driver could avoid hitting the man.
The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
Sergeant Jeremy Miller says the accident is a good reminder for motorists to stay inside if they have vehicle trouble -- and use a cell phone to call for help, if possible.
Animal control is being called to care for the man's dog, left inside the Jeep.
