I have just posted a major update to our list of US Coast Guard Air/Sea assets on the Milcom Monitor Post blog at Milcom Monitoring Post: US Coast Guard Asset Guide - Update 7 Jun 2016.

A very common question I hear these days on the various newsgroups is where have the coast guard aircraft gone? We don't hear them on their old 5/8 MHz guard freqs anymore?

The answer is simple. Most day to day CG air and cutter activity now takes place on the US Customs COTHEN radio system. You can get all the info on that system including freqs, identifiers and ALE addressed at Milcom Monitoring Post: COTHEN Net - Update 5 June 2016.

Larry you need to check your COTHEN site list. This one has wrong lat/lon coordinates:
CR1-CR8 - Omaha NE (42º 01’ 54” N / 91º 38’ 15” W)
That location is Rockwell-Collins in Cedar Rapids IA which is nowhere near Omaha.

Thanks Tom. I will pass that along to Mark Cleary who researched those coordinates.

Thanks Tom. I will pass that along to Mark Cleary who researched those coordinates.

I just looked up the rest on Google Earth and several of them are wrong.
CR1-CR8 - Omaha NE (42 01 54N, 91 38 15W) -- actual location Rockwell-Collins, Cedar Rapids, IA. (already posted that).
KCM - Raleigh NC (38 36 06N, 93 36 35W) -- actual location S of Whiteman AFB, MO

These two have the same location.
CDR - Marion IA (42 00 26N, 91 29 43W east of Cedar Rapids)
SS1 - Cedar Rapids IA (42 00 26N, 91 29 43W)

These three have no visible antennas nearby.
RNO - Simpson NV (38 52 00N, 119 24 38W southeast of Reno)
SEA - Clinton NC (34 58 07N, 78 23 32W east of Fayetteville)
VGS - Longandale NV (36 35 44N, 114 29 27W northeast of Las Vegas)

The coordinates of some of the others are a little ways off but easy enough to spot.

Thanks Tom. I have passed the rest of your comments along to Mark who authored those location which he found in a 2008 DHS document sent to the FCC on those stations . In the meantime, I have removed the lats/longs from my online copy so as to not cause any further confusion.

I think the coordinates of some of these antennas are deliberately off, reason unknown.
Logandale, NV does have a mystery antenna at 36 36 44.2N 114 29 22.5W.

I'ts probably more incompetence than deliberate misinformation.

The FCC ULS and ASR databases are rife with bad lat/lon coordinates. I can't imagine federal stations being any better. Some of these locations were probably guessed at by looking at a topo map in 1962 or something.

That appears to be the correct location for the one listed as VGS. I looks like the same type antenna used at several other sites. I didn't look far enough north for it.
