The USA's only Four Meter Amateur Radio beacon has renewed it FCC Part-5 (Experimental) license for another two years.


Atop Apple Orchard Mountain (Bedford County, VA) in Grid Square FM07fm at a height of 4300 feet.



Callsign: WG2XPN
Frequency: 70.005 MHz CW


ERP 3kW from a Yagi aimed at 60 degrees true north. The trustee of (Brian Justin, WA1ZMS/4) advises that the beacon is operating 24/7. The beacon has been heard via multi-hop E-skip in the UK and other locations in the EU over the past few years. QSL reports are encouraged via the DX cluster or beaconspot.eu.

So, just for giggles, I tried out here in California with a discone and an end-fed 70 foot wire. Nothing, not that I really expected anything different.

Easily heard here, as well as his 2m amateur radio beacon-but after all I am in Virginia (Fredericksburg).

Yeah, I figured I might get some off the back of their Yagi, but that would really be stretching it all the way out here. Maybe if the band was open….
