Hello everyone,

Just picked up a brand new Yaesu FTM-3200DR 2m trasceiver. Was playing around with it a bit and I noticed that it comes with a USB cable, and has a port in the back labeled "Data". However, I searched quite a bit online and through the user's manuals and found no reference whatseoever on how to use the USB port when hooked up to my PC. I connected it to my linux machine, hoping for a standard tty interface, and got nothing.

Has anyone connected this radio or any similar Yaesu radios to their PC via USB cable? If so, how did you do it, and what were you able to do once hooked up?

Thanks,
t16ter

It's probably only used for downloading new firmware to the radio and for programming memories with appropriate software.

Thanks W9BU. Unfortunately I had grand aspirations for this "data" port, including but not limited to writing some python scripts to send messages to friends through the radio. Looks like that would be out the window if all this thing can do is access channel-memory and update firmware.

Any suggestions on how I could connect my radio to my computer?
