• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

What operating system do you have on your computer? Did your purchase the usb converter from Uniden? You want to make sure the USB-1 cable uses the Prolific PL2303 chipset. I just purchased mine and follow the instructions and had only one issue and that was, I did not unplug my scanner from the power and plug it back in holding FUNC and 6. Once I did that it installed the drivers.
The site below has the instructions you need. Sorry if this is something you are aware of.

I've had very good luck with USB converters using the FTDI chipset up through Windows 8. I haven't tried it with Windows 10, so I don't know if they still work.

You don't need the USB-1 from Uniden specifically. The advantage of that cable is that it's a one piece cable while the other converter cables terminate in a 9 pin serial connector. The disadvantage is that they were, last time I checked, fairly expensive.
