I am using a SDS200. Is there a way to go back to scanning after using the mass storage ?? Where do I find the ESN and Checksum ?? The serial number on my scanner the one on the back has a Z while the one on the menu has a 2 in the same place. Which one is correct??

Just unplug the USB connection... The scanner will reboot and to return to scanning. Not a bad idea to use your computer's "unmount" or "eject" function for mass storage drives to protect the SD card before removing the USB connection.

The serial number (SN) is on the back of the scanner, the electronic serial number (ESN) is in the scanner's menu system:

Menu button ---> Settings ---> See Scanner Information ---> Firmware Version.

The last line on that screen is the 14 digit ESN followed by the Checksum after the dash. They are both correct.... if you are purchasing upgrades, when you register your scanner at my.uniden.com you are asked for the SN. When you actually purchase the upgrades, you will be asked for the ESN and the Checksum. On that purchase page, the first numbers of the ESN are already entered there, just fill in the remaining ESN numbers and the checksum.

Note: the "Z" in the SN is replaced with "260" to get the ESN.

That's why I use ethernet connected to my router - don't have that issue. Ethernet is far superior than USB and also carries audio.

(y)This is a great suggestion. Not doing so could be the cause of corrupted Micro SD cards!

Yes, the ethernet cable is the preferred connection method for streaming and remote monitoring and control of the SDS200... but for the mass storage functionality of the scanner (as the OP was referring to), the ethernet connection can't be used for that, the USB cable is necessary.

As you may know, the SDS200 has a FTP Read & Write mode function. It's similar to the USB Mass Storage mode except it uses the Ethernet connection. ProScan has the FTP Mode built in but any FTP Client program will work along with a serial port emulator program.

Yes, I was thinking mostly of newer users starting out with Sentinel which relies on the mass storage mode.

I wasn't sure since you advised "the ethernet cable is the preferred connection method for streaming and remote monitoring and control of the SDS200.." and of course, that can't be done with Sentinel.
