When I plug my USB port into TRX 2 scanner it does not detect it. The only way I can program it is to take the SD card out and put it in a reader or manually program it. . Also I can not do my firmware update.
Any suggestions

This is a common problem with whistler/gre units. You have to re-install the driver. I'm not exactly sure why it continues to happen but it gets really annoying. I'm told it has to do with automatic updates in windows or microsoft or whatever. If you do a search on the forums there will be directions/advice on how to re-install the drivers etc.

Uninstall the software, reboot the computer, then reinstall the software without plugging in the scanner. Attach the USB cable to the scanner first, start the program, and then plug the USB into the computer.

Also, just to eliminate any other issues - do this first.
Try a different USB cord.
They sometimes do go south.

I had usb problems a while back on a machine I use for uniden and sdr software. Logged into that pc from laptop thru teamviewer. Ran a utility called usbdeview-x64. Deleted every usb driver no longer needed from the machine. Rebooted. No more problems.

View any installed/connected USB device on your system

Use at your own risk because if you use it without something like teamviewer, and wipe out your mouse and keyboard, you may have problems properly rebooting..

Each USB port in a computer has its own drivers, so try another port. The programming cable a passive device without any electronics so it doesn't matter which end you connect first.

Each port does not have its own driver, each port is assigned a com port # either via the windows or you can manually assign them, most issues with the usb cable not working are due to not installing the comport driver using the unsigned driver procedure for windows 8-10. The comport driver (used for firmware updates) is not the same driver used to copy the configuration to or from the scanner, that is a generic driver in all versions of windows xp-10.

I have always had problems connecting to my Win 7 pro desktop. Only reliable way, sometimes, is to have the Trx-2 already plugged in at boot up.

The dreaded "unknown device" every time otherwise.

Thankfully, Whistler is not like Uniden with their wretched constant firmware updates.

In Windows each USB port have its own setup of drivers. If you have a new USB device you connect you'll see that it loads and installs a driver each time you use a new port. If you only use one port and the driver dissapears from the driver directory in windows it will fail to install the driver when you connect to a new USB port and you'll have to use the old USB port. Each port have it's on register entry in windows registry.

I know some people will argue this and say it is not safe or a good idea or whatever, but each to his own, I always have my Win Updates TURNED OFF. Every single time I had it on and it updated it messed up different things on my programs, especially EZscan and a couple of other scanning and logging programs. I would then have to waste an hour or so to fanangle the software and do restarts and anti-virus exclusions till it drove me nuts. Just turn the updates off until you have a free hour or so and able to turn everything off and let it do it's thing and then clean up after it. Saves me a lot of frustration.

I've had a somewhat similar problem with my computer. When connecting a USB plug or inserting an SD card, it sometimes takes 90 seconds or more for the computer to recognize it. It ultimately always finds whatever I plugged in but I usually have time to fix another cup of coffee before it does. I don't like it but I've learned to live with it. (It's an HP with an AMD processor and Windows 10.)

I ran into this an enraging amount with Win 7 64. Whislter help line was of not use other than to tell me others had no problem....Gee, thanks for that useless bit of info!

The only thing that worked (been a while since I had to plug in for updates) was the delete driver, reboot, install Whistler drivers, shut down, connect TRX-2, and reboot. Still sometimes will get the dreaded "unkown device" and have to go through it all again.

It "usually" sees the scanner correctly and all CPU/DSP etc updates went fine.

Now that I type this, I am nervous what will happen should new firmware come along.

Thank God these are not Uniden x36 crap with firmware coming out weekly.

Uniden uses a serial number with their usb interface in their scanners but Whistler do not. That makes it harder for Windows to match a usb device with the correct driver. Uniden works with their users to develop features and test fixes in beta releases for best performance. Whistler do not develop firmware in house and that will make it difficult and costly to do quick fixes and small enhancements that will improve their scanners.
