I know that there has been some other discussion recently about Uniden external speakers. I would like to see a Uniden amplified speaker that is powered by a USB port. I have a Uniden HP-1 that I use with a Uniden BC23A Amplified Communications Speaker. While it is a nice set up function wise, it is a challenge to hide the power wire. I have often thought that it would be handy to have a power pass through on the Uniden scanners. It could be located right next to the external speaker jack. That way the wires could run along side one another. One for audio, one for power, and your done.

Or, for those using a handheld with an amplified speaker, use a separate USB charger. USB devices have gotten so popular that getting power from a vehicle or in a builidng is pretty easy with the availability of adapters.

In fact, now that I think about how messy an install can get with all of the wires, some company has a motto: "A World Without Wires"! I just can't seem to recall who has that motto. Does anybody remember?

Ditto. You can't get much power out of USB.

Does anyone make a USB driven amplified speaker?

The issue with the Unidens is the lack of an external speaker jack. They actually have a headphone jack which has a reduced output level, to protect one's ears, which is not enough to power a speaker.. If they had a true external speaker jack they may not even need an amplified speaker.
