I much prefer Firewire for anything audio related. All of the pro computer audio equipment is firewire. Only the cheap consumer grade stuff is USB. Firewire uses DMA transfers (like your internal hard drive) for best performance and almost zero CPU utilization. USB uses the old IRQ interrupt method which is antiquated and performs poorly in comparison. Additionally, Firewire is isochronous while USB is not.
That said, USB may be perfectly acceptable for your particular usage. I'm merely pointing out that technologically better alternatives do exist.
