Since I have acquired several RTL2832U sticks, I got to wondering if I could use multiple RTL2832U sticks at the same time with multiple instances of SDR Sharp or HDSDR. I hadn't seen it mentioned it anywhere, so I gave it a try. The answer is yes you can and its pretty cool. This opens the door for some additional interesting projects using the RTL2832U as an SDR. If you want to give it a go, here is an article explaining how to get it working.

I run two usb devices at the same time with two separate sdr versions at the same time for monitoring trunking. One thing that i have noticed is that it really bogs your computer down because it is being routed through the usb hubs. Also setting up two directories or different folders for each version lets you save all your settings easier.

I was able to run 3 instances of SDR-Sharp or HDSDR just fine on a modest 2.4Mhz dual core machine with no problems even with a couple of other programs. A usb hub was used to connect the three RTL2832U sticks. The USB ports and the hub were all USB 2.0.
