What am I missing about using the QK's on a 246t. From what I can get from Uniden and the book is there is only 10 QK's, but you can use the same QK for more than one system. What I like about the QK's is being able to turn the system off/on with just a push of the button. But if you have 10 systems under 1 QK, then you turn all of them off/on at the same time. Is this right or am I overlooking something?

Hi. I just got a 396T and am learning its secrets, including the QK concept.

I think it's just that, if you desire to set up a quick key for more than one system, you can. There is so much flexibility with channel/system organization in these things, sometimes you just can't fathom it all. I would guess that, say, you had a mix of several trunked and conventional systems, maybe not all public service, but perhaps all in the same small city. You could assign a QK to them, making them a larger, collective "system", and toggle that with another set of systems when you're travelling to another area, for instance. There's no end to it!

Yes, one quick key can be used for multiple systems. The 246 needs more than the 10 they allow, though. I think the 396 offers 100 quick keys?

You've got the concept down.

As for why there are only 10 SQKs, well, it's not the high end portable scanner. You can't expect the same features as the top-of-the-line unit.

Thanks alot for the info, glad to know I was understanding is right. I will just change to way I want my radio set up. From what I am hearing about the 700 system coming to La., I will be having to go to a high end scanner to pick it up. Thanks again.
