As some of you are aware, last night (Sunday, August 23rd, 2009) there was a pursuit initiated by JCAT beginning in the Taylorsville area and terminating in Murray. Three suspects were taken into custody and from news reports, two of them were escapees from Wyoming and believed to have been involved in a home invasion robbery in SL.

During that pursuit I was in contact with Highpockets who is known by most of the members of the Utah Forum. He connected with the SL live feed and could not hear anything. The pursuit occurred on SL Regional and a Twitter Alert was sent out concerning it. It was good listening, but Highpockets was left high and dry.

Now before I go any further, let me be very clear, I am NOT interested in becoming a feed provider, but I do have some questions:

  1. During the pursuit, Highpockets never heard one comm on the live feed. The live feed says it is monitoring SL SO and you know how busy they are, so why didn't he hear anything?
  2. Is there a "rule" as a live feed provider to "lock on" only one TG for monitoring and feed purposes?
  3. Which TG is this live feed locked on? To go for 20 minutes and not have anything come across indicates a problem somewhere.
After the pursuit was over, I also went to the live feed and listened for about a quarter of an hour without hearing anything. At the same time I locked on TG 320 (SLSO East) and it was silent the whole time ( very unusual). I then locked on TG 250 (SLSO West) and it was going nuts, so I'm thinking that the SL feed is locked on TG 320.

There are four other feeds from Utah: Davis County, Weber County, San Juan County, and Utah County.

I went to the live feed from San Juan County and it was going nuts for an outlying area as were the other feeds except Utah County, was off line.

I don't know who provides these feeds, but the feeds for Salt Lake and Utah County need some work. The providers are getting a "free ride" on a Premium Subscription (and other perks), and if they cannot do any better than that, they need to submit their freebies.

Click on the Orange "!" icon next to the feed.
Salt Lake County Sheriff Live Scanner Audio
It will allow you to contact the provider and let them know of the problem.

I too would love to see more feeds for Utah, especially one for Alta/Snowbird. *hint* *hint* :)

Thanks, brandon. I eventually figured that out and have sent a message via e-mail through the RR utility.

Don't hold your breath over Alta/Snowbird. I don't think we have any members up in that area and getting comms in and out of the canyon would be a little iffy. Besides, most of the radio traffic up there would have to do with the operations of the resort(s), unless or until someone skied into a tree or some such. :(

A Calm Summers Night...

I too jumped on the feed when I got the txt and nothing... I left it running on Itunes while watching some TV for probably an hour and nothing.

Just a Thought...

RR should make a link that provides a little more information about the feed other than the one sentence title that would give TG's and other items monitored.

My idea would be the following....

Get a PSR-600 or Pro-197 and locate it at a members home providing a stream of all UCAN. Then using the Win500 remote control allow selected people the login information. that way they could remotely login and lock channels during an alert and change scanning as needed.

First we need $$$ for a scanner (maybe a 'membership' fee or additional pay services to media and agencies?) Then we need a good solid location for the scanner. lastly we need Ryan to help us with getting it linked up via the utahradio.org site.

I think the reason that no one heard anything, is because the Regionals are not streamed. If you were from out of state, and wanted to hear scanner audio, you wouldn't want a channel or TG that is silent most of the time. The Regionals are great, (when there is a situation)

No, that was not the case. There was NO traffic. I listened too. Even though that pursuit was carried on Regional, that did not have anything to do with other traffic on the SO's TGs and there was nothing. sms2003 confirms that in post #4 above.

Today there is traffic on the live feed, and it is not just the SO. I have heard UFA and UHP on it so the feed has been changed to scan all of UCAN in SL. I like sms2003's idea that the live feed software should allow a display of which TG is being monitored because now it is like listening to the scanner without the benefit of having a display to look at, but it is a step in the right direction.

The name of the feed should now be changed from SL SO to SL County.

Utah County's feed is back on, too!

FYI. I have added Cache Valley to the Utah RR.com live feeds.
