VDOT SSP question

Is there a handheld radio assigned to each user, I keep hearing them say “Truck ### off the lot using PTT ###” but I’ll occasionally see a secondary Radio ID associated with the same user, trying to figure what’s going on.

Believe thats their ptt cell phone Id should match their truck id city hall 1, hirise 1 etc

Saw SSP guy answering dispatch from his portable, inside a Harbor Freight one day. Perhaps second ID his is portable Mobile Radio Extender?

Anything is possible. Just curious what’s going on. I mean they have to have SOMETHING on them for a radio other than in the truck or phone, in case they get hit, etc. was just curious if anyone knew anything more on it. As I said it’s always “Truck (number) off the lot, using Push to talk (number)... so I was curious.

Some SSP vehicles were installed with full repeater setups /w portables, this was the batch that was ordered back in 2012 in the Salem area, I'm pretty sure others were set up the same way.
