I currently use a ProClip mount for my BC436hp, but due to the case design for the SDS100, the side grips cannot hold onto the SDS100. Does anyone have a recommendation for mounting the SDS100 in the car, besides a Ram Mount?

Nope. None of the cellphone type holders are going to work for the SDS100 because of the thickness of the case. Even more so once the larger battery and battery door come out. A RAM finger grip mount is probably your only practical option.

Buy once, cry once, you'll spend less money in the long run not buying stuff that isn't going to work or breaks quickly.

Whatever you do, don't buy the one from zip scanners, it's a piece of junk, that they charge double the price that you could get it on Amazon, and as the same thing just a regular cell phone holder. They claim it is for a scanner, and fits any scanner, they are full of it

Soft Mount

Not likely the hard mount expected, but it works for me. I think I picked it up at WalMart as a hanging trash receptacle or bottle holder. Console is white hard plastic so I used cable anchor on the inside and looped a piece of light para-cord to the tab on the holder. Grey cord patches into the MP3 jack for the car's sound system.

Here's a picture from the underside of my amateur radio mounted on my motorcycle:

What I did was "sacrificed" a Kenwood AAA battery pack... by permanently mounting a RAM mount to it. Batteries can no longer fit inside, but it is attached to the motorcycle battery.

You could easily do the same with the Uniden... When you get the replacement battery door, you could do this same thing to the existing door!

Think this would work with sds100 in vehicle? Cup holder mount, and it looks to have retractable or expandable shelf extensions on bottom and sides.

I used industrial strength velcro on side panel next to the car radio (placed three strips on the back of the battery). It actually works and doesn't look awful.

Thanks, Jon, I will look at those. A friend uses the cup holder in his Jeep and wraps the base of the scanner with one of his wife's hair ties lol - it actually works well and looks good!

maus92 - The mic holder looks like it works, but the radio seems to be drooped forward a bit, maybe making it hard to read? Looks to be the most affordable solution so far. Maybe fashion a shim to stick in there to straighten it up? Looks good tho!

It is canted downward slightly, but it can be read *if* I wanted to, - but I don't usually take my eyes off the road. I also can usually ID the channel I'm listening to by the radio traffic, so it's not really an issue for me. I used to keep it in the cup holder between the seats where it could never be read, but then I had no room for the coffee and water I need to sustain my drives (usually in heavy traffic.) It is also next to the USB port, and I use a curly USB cable (not shown) to power / charge it.

I should also add that the display is not really bright enough to read (easily / at a glance) during the daytime anyway.

maus - whatever works! It is by far the most simple solution I have seen. I use the same 2-cup console holder in my RV that used to be in my Freightliner (see shack pics) and that works well for me, but not in my regular truck.

I am wondering if anything magnetic in a mic holder/scanner cradle would have an adverse affect on the radio?

Adding photos to the mobile mount thread, using a mic mount:

I don't think that will work well when you get the extended battery, especially for people that ONLY have the extended battery, which will fatten the back of the scanner an additional 8mm or so.

Hmm, not sure, but I would try to avoid anything magnetic. The one I used is plastic, I replaced the original sticky pad with heavy duty double-sided tape - the original tape was not strong enough. I am trying to avoid having to drill into the trim, and so far the HD tape seems to work.

We shall see - the lower portion of the radio is sort or floating away from dashboard, and there is "play" in the mic clip. Gravity is your friend. And it's easily reversible if it doesn't work with the extended battery.

Radio signals are electromagnetic waves so try to avoid any magnets close by.
I used to de-magnetice receivers to get rid of any magnetism in coils and metal to restore some sensitivity, when adjusting the tuned circuits seemed to give unpredictable results.
