To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I've scrounged an old 4-channel 1011H low band radio and would like to re-program and tune it to a few channels on 6m FM. I have been trying software CE-5 and CE-7 in a DOS OS with little luck. All I can do is write to the radio, only, using CE5. CE7 neither reads or writes. CE5 does not accept frequencies above 50.0 MHz. Is there some way to get CE5 to accept out-of-band frequencies. Suggestions? Thanks, Ed.

vertex-standard : vertex-standard

The 4 and 24 channel radios use CE5.EXE but you need to do a little hex editing to get the channels in the radio.

If you go to the yahoo vertex radio group above and in the files section you will find my document on programming/converting the FTL1011 to 6 meters.

It's a bit of a pain when you need to hexedit things but once you get the hang of it the radio works fine.

You may need to join this group to access the file so if you have any problems then you can send me your e-mail and I can send you the document in word format.

Also if you get totally messed up or lost with the hexediting then I can probably help you with the radio codeplug/programming file.

re. FTL-1011H

Thanks for the message. I guessed that I would need to hex-edit and have downloaded an editor. I'll sign into yahoo and check for the information. I did get CE5 to both read and write successfully. Ed ex-KI7WB, KI6R.

Ed,

If you already downloaded the original document you probably want to go back to yahoo vertex group and get revision 2.

I discovered some errors in the checksum routine depending on what frequencies you program in the radio.

As a result, I added in step 10B which gives another memory area that can be altered to get the checksum correct.

I just uploaded this revision today at 6:40 local time.

CE5 V3.0 allowed out of band frequency programming

WA6HFM and K6KRD haved dealt with the problem before. CE5 v3.0 allows out of band frequencies to be entered, and then saved to a .ch file. We then moved the .ch file to location with CE5 v4.1, retrieved the frequency file and successfully programmed the radio. I noticed that after writing to the radio it would not successfully read without powering-off/on once first. I also had to adjust the VCO coils to get the PLL to lock-up and the receiver required retuning. I'm now on 6m FM! Thanks for the help. Ed, KI6R.

Ok

I had heard of version 3.0, I think I mentioned this in my document, but I have never seen it and of course mine is version 4.1 .
