• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

We recently added a repeater at one of our properties. We are primarily use Motorola radios and I have not touched a Vertex radio in the 9 years I have been here.
I have a some questions regarding the Vertex programming software and parts needed.

1. Is the CE-99 software the correct version to program the Vertex VX-231? Will it program the Vertex Standard Model# VX-231-G7-5 radios using a 64bit Windows OS system or do I need a 32bit PC because of the age of the radio's processor?

2. I have the Vertex FIF12A USB interface. What is the correct part number for the Vertex VX231 radio programming cable?

Apologizes for the delay, been dealing with knee surgery and a few other problems (like flooding in Okla)
anyway, I have programmed the Vertex 261 radios but my purchasing dept and the project manager are having difficulty obtaining the correct software version, the correct hardware and a PC with a 32 bit OS.

SO, i have the project half way sorted out.

So Cali
We have lots of Vertex radios and have no problems programming running on Windows XP.
But we do not use USB programming cables.

Where are you looking for "the correct software" or " hardware"? CE99 v3.02 software.

BTW the Motorola HT600 is still one of my favorites.

The VX-231 uses the same programming cable as the VX-261.

This is my knock off programming cable. Has both the 1/8” 4 conductor plug Vertex liked for their lower end radios, and a RJ-45 for 8 pin mobiles:

Your existing cable for your VX-261 will work just fine.

I have also programmed VX-261’s with my knock off serial cable.

64 bit OS will work no problem, no need for a 32bit OS with the VX-231.
