• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

As soon as this repeater is powered on all nearby radios that are programmed on the same freq pair there RX lights come on Indiacating receive. The repeater appears to be transmitting some sort of signal without the transmitter being keyed. I checked RF power output from the antenna connector an# there no power output. Everything works great, RX good, TX output good, just this crazy issue????

I believe this has been discussed here before. Essentially the TX local oscillator runs all the time instead of only when the transmitter is keyed. Don't remember if there was a solution. Maybe someone else here can provide additional information.

Any help or guidance would be appreciated. I changed out the capacitors in the PA thinking it was a filtering issue. The reply must be correct about running all the time because as soon as I unplugged the transmitter board the condition stopped. I thinking maybe the crystal needs to be replaced???? HELP NEEDED

Exactly. Nothing wrong with your repeater. The repeater runs the TX VCO, "transmitter local oscillator", all the time so the transmitter has a fast 'turn on time' . You already have the Tone squelch on your radios you wont hear the TX VCO. And you probably will get the busy indicator, this IS normal for that and many other repeaters.

The TX VCO is a phase lock loop so it does have some 'turn on time' so to eliminate the turn on and lock up time it stays on all the time. The "signal" is not very strong and does not even get to the repeater antenna. So when you and you handheld radio get away from the repeater your radio will not 'hear' the TX VCO.

Only This Repeater Does This

I have 5 of these Vertex VXR-7000 UHF Repeaters and I have sold 4 or 5 others and they did not do this. It's a problem because the HT' s are many times within blocks to the repeater and there receive lights are on and then they can't Scan. One person purchased it and soon returned it. I don't blame them because it is an nagging condition.
