VHF Trunking radios for Leaky Feeder system????

Hello,

I am putting together a leaky feeder system for a tour guiding company to be used within a cave system. The system will be VHF and trunking. Do any of you have any strong suggestions for a hand held radio that will work with this system? I am looking for affordable, durable, effective.

What kind of trunking (Moto, EDACS. LTR...)? That will probably limit your selection more than anything else. Realizing there is some difference between "mines" and "caves", besides being rugged, you may want (need?) them to be "intrinsically safe" i.e. would not ignite dust or gas, in the case these are encountered.

I would consult with a professional.

There are lots of issues that are much more critical than the selection of the portable unit.

You focus on that aspect has me concerned that other issues will be overlooked.
