Is there any scanner laws in the state of Virginia? If so, could someone give me a link? Can't find them anywhere. My aunt lives in Chesapeake and was wondering what the laws were before I went up there and took my scanner up there with me.

About the only place you'll find scanners mentioned in the Virginia Code is that they can't be used in the commission of a crime. Otherwise, you're good to go.

Virginia Scanner Law

This is from the Virginia Code and is the only known scanner law:

§ 18.2-462.1. Use of police radio during commission of crime.

Any person who has in his possession or who uses a device capable of receiving a police radio signal, message, or transmission, while in the commission of a felony, is guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor. A prosecution for or conviction of the crime of use or possession of a police radio is not a bar to conviction for any other crime committed while possessing or using the police radio.

(1992, c. 499.)
