I will be visiting Madison next month for my HS reunion. I will be bringing my Pro 106. Besides what is in the RR database that I will download to my software, are there any other frequencies that are good to listen too?

Also what is the best WISCOM tower to listen to in Madison? I will be staying out by East Towne Mall. In the list I saw Columbus, Deerfield, and Blue Mounds as possibilities.

I will also be visiting Crawford County (Prairie du Chien) and I did not see any WISCOM towers that might be used in that area. Are there any?

The one thing I noticed about Crawford Co. is that there has been little change in their frequencies and use since I left the area.

Any thoughts and information is apprciated.

I think that what is in the database is all we know of right now. I can't personally say what is good to listen to, because I dont live near Madison to scan it. Looknig up at the database and deteriming what looks good for you is probably the best thing.

As for WISCOM, I am unsure of its progress as of right now, because it is still under construction. Again, I havn't been to Mdison to find what towers work the best. My suggestion would be to imput all towers within the area and have the scanner roam to find the best one. However, WISCOM is not fully operational in some places, so you might not get anything

Again, I am not out in Madison (Im in Milwaukee) so I know very little of it . Research on the database and choosing what looks good to you is probably my best suggestion

Thank you for your reply. I will be loading the frequencies of interest to me into my software program and then upload to my scanner for both Madison/Dane Co. and Crawford Co. Besides police, fire, ems, I will monitor just about anything to pass time in my hotel room. I have discovered from my own area that some frequencies people wouldn't think about listening to can be the most fun.

From the WISCOM tower sites I did not recognize anything near Crawford Co. so I'm guessing that part of the state is not on it. As you suggested I will load the 3 towers I found close to Madison and see what happens.

Again thank you for your reply.

Now as I do a bit of research myself, I see now that Craford County and all of Southwestern Wisconsin has no active WISCOM Sites yet. When will these sites be active, I do not know. But as of now, the closest active site (says the database) is Blue Mounds and Baraboo, which is way too far away to pick up from Crawford. You can scan our WISCOM thread to see if anyone has heard anything in that area. But as of now, most of the activity is in Northern Wisconsin.

I would agree with you. I don't think there are any sites out that way. I lived in the SW part of the state for several years and did not see any sites that would be close. When I lived there the State Patrol was on low band and you needed to have two frequencies in your scanner, one for the base and one for the mobiles. It doesn't have a big population out that way so I am guessing that WISCOM is years away from the area.

WISCOM is still being built out. It's working, but not agency has cut over to it. It's a lot of tests with the WSP Radio Techs and a few EOM people on the STACs. At this point, I wouldn't put it in your scanner.

Thanks for that info. I will keep it in mind when programming my scanner.

Check the DB for WISCOM updates in the next day or two...it should fill in the blanks for you.

I just checked it out and now see there are at least two sites/towers that cover Crawford County. I will be in the area just after the 4th. If I hear anything I will let you know. It will make my stay there a bit more interesting. I enjoy listening to P25 traffic as there is very little in my area.
