To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Hey everyone, I’m looking for the Voice Annunciation Feature Manual 14221-7200-6110. In reading the XG100M manual, it specifically talks about voice annunciation support and says to refer to the document listed above, however, documentation for the latest firmware seems to imply that VA is not available for the XG100M… did the 100M lose that feature at some point? The firmware release document also implies that the firmware is only compatible with RPM2 but this is not the case.

I’m thinking perhaps VA is not compatible with the 100M using RPM2. Can anyone offer clarity and/or provide me with the Voice Annunciation Feature Manual?

Thanks,
Brian

@rmiles Thanks again for the document! I was able to add VA such that the channel name shows on the display and the VA announces the location of the repeater and the frequency it is operating on. In the case of p25 conventional it announces the frequency and NAC. This is handy because I don’t have to go to the channel edit screen just to glean basic channel parameters.

During this process, I also discovered the ‘PLAYBACK’ feature which replays the last call. This is awesome because I’m terrible at remembering callsigns and now I can replay the last incoming call quickly and easily! Very VERY cool features on this radio.

Playback is an awesome feature. I use it on all my OMAP Harris radios. Glad you were able to get it to work. What did you use to make the audio files?

@rmiles My degree was in audio engineering so I have a full suite of tools for that. I used Nuendo with fabfilter plugins to process the audio. Exported to 8kHz 16bit .wav and then into RPM which converts them to .ilbc files before sending them to the radio. The whole process is pretty simple.

Unfortunately, it seems that using VA and playback features at the same time sometimes causes the radio to reset… perhaps something with the playback buffer which is obviously shared between the rx audio and VA because if I change channels and VA announces the channel, pressing the playback button replays the VA. Now I can’t decide which is more important!

The way I’m using VA, I could just write everything down in a notepad or just memorize stuff, which I’m sure will eventually happen naturally.

P.S. I could likely make the files you need, but it would be using my own voice…

Playback literally plays back the last thing. If you press a button playback with playback the sound.

What code are you running in the radio and which version of RPM? Could be a firmware issue? I could pull the manual off tech-link and see if it’s been corrected in a future release.

I may take you up on that offer!

I’m running the latest firmware and RPM14C and R6T firmware. I believe R6T is current…
