Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Is there a way to add a secondary function to a button on the VP 4/6/900 radios? Is there also a way to have certain buttons or switches perform multiple functions simultaneously? On my NX5300 I have several keys programmed with secondary functions, however, I can't seem to figure out how to program this in Armada or if it's even possible.

I would start by asking which buttons you are tying to use as you can assign soft key functions to the buttons right under the display like you would with an XTS or APX portable and allow you to scroll through them using the directional pad. Like Motorola, some of the specific button functions have secondary functions built into them. For example, RSSI/SITE will display site and RSSI info but if you long press it it will go into SITE SEARCH function.

What I'd like to be able to accomplish is to set the keypad lock where it requires depressing two keys in order to unlock the radio (I'm not picky about which ones). The second thing I'd like to accomplish is being able to lock the side keys but still have access to the red top button which I have set as the scan button. From what I can see, It appears that I have to choose whether I want both the side and top buttons locked or unlocked, the top red button can't be left unlocked while locking the side buttons.

That's going to be a very one off configuration. Typically that red button would be fore emergency and by definition when programmed for emergency is the only button that could override the keypad lock. That being said, keypad lock on/off is typically always a long press on Motorola/EFJ/Harris/BK.
