VX-2R commander program

Is anyone using this, and and can verify that you can NOT do anything with the program (enter data, etc) withOUT a data cable?

It seems that way, and the author hasn't answered after a week, and the data cable I ordered might not be here for 2-4 more weeks.

for some reason you have to download your radio before any data can be entered so you need a cable
