• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I am attempting to program a VX6000. I have a chinese USB cable and associated drivers that install OK.
The cable is recognized by Win XP and assigned a com port.
I'm using CE49 v 5.15 software.
I am unable to make the radio connect to the program/computer. I put the radio in "SB Clone" mode.
This is an orphan radio, but was operating OK. I'm taking a guess on the frequency-UHF, and tried all that are listed in the hardware tab.
When I attempt the radio upload to the program, it works for several minutes and returns the error message that it can't communicate for various reasons.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Com port

Thanks for the tip. I dropped the computer down to 1200 but it didn't help. I'll have to keep looking.
I think the radio is actually communicating is some strange fashion with the computer because I had the programming cable attached to the radio, but not plugged into a USB port. The radio wouldn't turn on. I plugged the cable in and the radio intantly powered up.

I just seen you said SB Clone?

It should be PC Clone.

Holding the power and the button below the power button should put you in PC Clone.
Don't hole the 2nd button.

Holding P0 and P1 when powered puts it into SB Clone mode and that's not what you want to program the radio it's just for the accessory boards.

Let me know how you make out.

What chinese e-bay seller did you get this cable from? Several of those guy's sell stuff that does not work.

I always use kawamall, or one of the other stateside sellers.

Plug your cable into the computer, then go to device manager click on com ports and see what port was assigned to the cable.

open your program, click on file, then click on configure and select that port.

Now, connect the radio to a power supply

Plug the cable into the mic jack and then on the program click on radio and select download.

At this point the program will tell you to press and hold the pf 1 button (the first button on the left of the four), while turning the radio on.

The display will read PC CLONE and should start down loading the current radio information.

THANKS
The reason there are smart people like you is to cover for not-so smart people like me.
It works perfect if I push THAT first button, not the other first button.

I'm using the kawamal cable, which is Chinese.
It's OK. The problem was that I wasn't turning the radio on in PC-Clone. DUUUUUUH
