• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

Does any one know what the recent firmware version is? I have a radio with R01.07.04 and would like to update it to recent and know what changes or improvements are. IIRC I thought I saw a sample codeplug with 1.11.xx

Thanks Craig. I ended up creating a VSOL account and was able to get the firmware.

It was easy getting a Vertex Account. I did it a few weeks ago, and found the
latest firmware and programming software (Clone Editor) available. Mine is
also version R01.07.04. I do have Clone Editor V1.5 build 13, which is
probably the latest version prior to the Narrowband Mandate.

Be forewarned, if you bump the firmware to the latest version, R01.11.02,
the radio will be forced into narrowband on analog channels.
You'll have to contact them for an entitlement ID to enable 25khz spacing
for use on FM amateur radio repeaters.
Read the 'release notes' for CE
Software V2.0 for the VXD radios and you'll see '20/25khz support non-us
version CE for wideband programming'.
I haven't found the link to download
a 'non-US' version of the software. The latest Clone Editor V2.0 has the
added feature to contact VSOL for an entitlement ID to allow 25khz spacing
when programming the radio. It may be an easy task to get, or it may not be.
I know that trying to get an Entitlement ID through MoneyRolla is a PITA.

My radio is working fine with R01.07.04 and Build 13 CE.

There are no new features in the latest firmware that have me wanting to update mine.

They also released CE 2.5 which allows for wideband programming with out the EID.

And the firmware update now enables the keypad for DTMF

2.5 will only program the VXDR70 720 and 7200 EVX-R70 not the other EVX models

Ah, very nice. Thanks for the screenshot and PM confirmations. I'm installing CE 2.5 on another laptop and when it's done I'll get to work updating.

Cool. Thanks for the information clearing up what the latest firmware update accomplishes. I'm done updating my 720 to R01.11.02. RSSI works, analog DTMF works! I use that often as the local UHF repeater here has many controller features accessible by DTMF. And thankful not having to get an EID for wideband. Sweet! Thanks, Scott!

Now to update my 7200...

Ah, a new feature, called 'Test Mode' under General Settings. AKA 'Service Mode' in Motorola speak.

When enabled, the radio enters into the normal Test Mode when the user presses the side button/programmable button 2 for five times within ten seconds of power up. For Portable only, the radio enters into the ART chamber Test Mode when the side button 1 is pressed for five times within ten seconds of power up.

That was one I wasn't sure about. I never tried it with 1.07. The other one I wasn't sure about was radio check in digital mode.

Register and wait for them to contact you. They wanted a 10 digit Vertex account number from me. I told them I was a ham and they gave me access.

It was pretty painless, and now I have access to most of the Vertex software / firmware.

Just remember to use the Clone Editor 2.5 as noted above when you upgrade the firmware. If not, the program won't like the wideband channels without an EID after the firmware upgrade.

Does Vertex charge a subscription fee for there software like Motorola does?

No they don't. you set up a account and you have access to all their software and current firmware for free.

I see that "VXD-DigitalSeries Programming/Vertex_R011110_120101 firmware" update is available. I've loaned my 720 out to someone so I can't try this update. There aren't any Release Notes available for this update. I hope it's not a 'virus' that someone has uploaded to the site without their knowledge. It was uploaded to the site on 23 July. I'm hesitant to try it without seeing what changes to expect first.
