Hey everyone,

I’ve been learning more about compact antennas lately, and I came across the W3006 chip antenna from Pulse Electronics. It’s pretty small (just 10 × 3.2 × 1.5 mm) and supports both the 2.4 GHz and 5.5 GHz bands. I was thinking of soldering it onto a small PCB or ground plane area. What I like about it is that it’s compact but still pretty useful if you’re doing something like a handheld Wi-Fi rig, a small node, or even a homebrew router. The dual-band nature means I might not need two separate antennas for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. Right now I’m planning how to lay out my PCB so that the ground plane beneath the antenna is clean (to help with performance), and I want to test how well it works in real life, not just by theory. I’m wondering if the small size limits its range or if I’ll get decent signal strength in a typical home setup.

How would you mount it, would it need a matching network, and what range would you actually get on 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz?

Thanks
