Wait, is that the last breath heard from the (SDS/SDR) fanboy's as they do the coughing spiral into oblivion...

Interesting front end software ((Software Defined Radio)SDR) scanner.

( SignalsEverywhere: A Front End GUI Control Head for OP25 )
(
)

I find this to be the "missing link" of what has been really needed to combat the overpriced scammer er scanner business of late. Even more to the point that SDR is being marketed as some sort of state of the art technology (even though the "technology" is almost 50yrs old now) ~ so the price MUST be super high! When in fact as many have said, including myself, it's just MATH.

Basically with her software and a $35~ Pi + a 30$ish screen + a few other misc parts - so UNDER 100$ you can build an SDR scanner and customize it they way YOU want it to be......even with a color screen! In the 21st century...AMAZING.

She's thinking of doing a kickstarter...You think I'll be in on that....IN AN INSTANT!

And think of the good that "could" come to radioreference...for a small price they could start to license thier database pulls to end users...$10 a year from people who want to make sure a site like this continues to provide...for some time into the future.

And is this why the SDS scammers er scanners are seeing lower retail pricing points...makes you wonder...competition is good!

Carry that whole setup (PI + dongle + screen + power source) with you mobile / portable every day, and I'll carry my SDS-100 self-contained with me. Let's see who complains first. I don't know if there will be another scanner to follow the SDS, or if that is perhaps the end of the road for scanners. But the SDS does a helluva lot more in its tight package than you seem to want to admit.

I'm an SDR fan -- probably been using one for longer than most people on here. I'm a PI / Odroid / SBC fan. But, for portability and functionality, you can't go wrong with an SDS.

It's vaporware to those of us who have zero desire to be part of a kickstarter program or fab a setup.

Obv. it's not for everyone. But I'm already in the CAD designing some cases to 3D print to hold it all...hmmm do I want a 3.2" screen, I wonder what color case I want to use today...day glo orange, blue... o_O maybe red, white AND blue.....hmmm.....

wait...is that gurgling I hear with the last breaths....What's in your wallet...well not any $$ if you bought an SDS....

Moved from General Scanning since this is just another front end for OP25.

Can’t you just use a web browser to control OP25 and edit the source to configure it however you want?

Yep. And you can edit the heck out of the terminal display and run it w/o a gui on a reclaimed TFT from an old electronic picture frame, with comic sans as the font.

Just one thought it may work for several of us here but until like posted above you have people that have no idea how to setup or use most of the new Uniden SDS's x36's 996p2's Whistler TRX's 10xx's.
Also portable use as a handheld I can not put a TABLET in my pocket or on my belt.
So this project still has a long way to go to work for the general public.

op25 really does need a robust and more capable front end. I don't know whether this will be it, but it's a promising start.

Would be nice if Big Tech had no involvement, couldn't it have an SD card incorporated with the national database programmed to it and users could tailor it to their liking?

Got it - you're on a fixed income. But maybe you shouldn't be projecting.

Fixed income? LOL ...no I own an emergency services contracting/logistics support provider co., and have many toys...but I do live by what my grandfather taught me - put your grandchildren through college, NOT SOMEONE Else's.
