Usually, Positive is Red. If you have a voltmeter, you can figure it out. If you don't have one, you can find cheap digital meters for $10 (maybe even at Radio Shack).

Wall warts come from a variety of places and can be pretty much any current, voltage or polarity. They can even be AC!

White or the striped end is usually the (+) lead, but I've smoked some nice stuff running it off wall warts I've grabbed from here or there. Some CCTV cameras have 24 volt power supplies. Some of my telephone junk has 48 V positive ground (the stripe is negative!).

I recommend you use a multimeter - it doesn't have to be a fancy one - and check first, especially if someone gave you the wart or just found it lying around. It's no different than "Measure twice, cut once."

Alot of the wall warts ive seen will tell you on the front or back of it.the voltage in and out and the polarity -0- . Mike
