A couple of news bits that may have been missed:
1. Cambridge Fire Department dispatch has been consolidated into Kitchener Fire Department. Existing CFD communications staff have been transferred to KFD. KFD is now handling all dispatching for fire services throughout Waterloo Region. Cambridge dispatching has resumed using TG 04-041 (Cambridge Dispatch). Previously, this TG was unused with all dispatching occurring on TG 04-042 (Cambridge TAC 1).
2. Kitchener Fire Department and Waterloo Fire Rescue have recently renumbered their trucks. Kitchener prepended existing numbers with a "1" (e.g. Rescue 1 becomes Rescue 11, Car 23 becomes Car 123, etc.) Waterloo did the same with a "2" (e.g. Pump 4 becomes Pump 24, Pump 12 becomes Pump 212, etc.) So far, no word on what Cambridge nor the townships are doing, though one could make the obvious speculation. Not sure if any trucks have physically received their new numbers yet.
It is my opinion that the above changes are being done in preparation for what will ultimately be a regionalization of the local fire services. A single fire service operated by the Region of Waterloo makes a lot of sense. Time will tell of course, but I believe it is inevitable and overdue.
