In the past few days, I've installed and begun using the BCD396T software with my BR330. All elements of the program appear to be working wonderfully (thanks, brscanning, it's really kinda cool!).

My confusion lies with activating WAV file creation by checking the Record Audio box. I've checked the wiki about scanning software and it sounds to me like I need to cable from my earphone plug to "line in" on my audio card. Can anyone tell me if this is correct? (Without that cable, my wav files contain what could best be described as static.)

I guess my confusion is whether some kind of miracle occurs through the programming cable or if an additional cable as described above is needed. (Yes, since getting this scanner six weeks ago - and experiencing computer programming of the scanner using the Butel program, I do believe in miracles!)

Synthesized scanners have come a long way since my first handheld Bearcat 100!

If you're using AVC396 from Scannerbase/Brian Foy (brscanning provides ID Tracker, a different handy software application), then yes, you do need to run an audio patch cable from the earphone jack to the line-in on your pc's sound card. Don't crank the volume on the scanner, or else you'll distort the ausdio, & could (potentially) damage the sound card with the overdrive. You could use an attenuating cable, or just a low volume setting (which is what I do).

To listen to the scanner through the pc speakers, as it records, make sure the "mute" input on the sound card control is not activated. (Your card setup may be different than mine.)

Yes, it is Scannerbase AVC - Brian, please accept my apologies - and thanks so much hiegtx for your prompt reply.

I'll have to check what kind of plug my audio card requires.

If your card is like mine, it'll be the same as the earphone jack on the scanner
