I've never seen them.

Only spotter classes I've ever been to / known of are held within the community around March. An actual NWS meteorologist comes down and presents it. It's rather informative and fun.

Roy.IF you will go to the National Weather Service office link for Indianapolis and look for the video for Skywarn you can watch that. The Weather Servcie is no longer certifying anyone and they no loner give out cards to that effect. If you would wish to find out when they are having the classes in your area.Click on the Skywarn area and it will tell you when the classes are coming up or you could send a e-mail to Dave Tuceck at Indianpolis Weather and let him know that you would like to have a class.Dave is a very nice person at Indianapolis Weather. If you need anything elese please PM me.Thanks 73 Tim DeLong W9NES Marion County/Indianapolis,Indiana

Yes I undersatnd that you have a card. But the Weather Service is no longer certifiying people for Skywarn. You go to the class and that is it.They take your name and call sign it no more. This is the way things are done at the Indianapolis Weather Service Office. The Weather Service has been doing this now for a long time in Indianapolis,You might want to check with the office that covers Kentucky. Thanks!!!

Orange County and Crawford County are both located in the Louisville National Weather Service Office's county warning area. Classes are offered in your area during the first three months of the year, according to their website. Between now and then you can take advantage of some of the material they have posted. The Basic Spotters Field Guide and the Advanced Spotters Field Guide are both available on their website and are an excellent resource for getting started in spotting.

Thats exactly what they did when I took the class a couple weeks ago here in Minneapolis. There was a "test" at the end, but they just went over the answers with everyone and made sure they understood the material. They didn't even require that you had a call sign to get a Skywarn ID, which I had been told that they did require.

The class had been publicized by a local TV station on their website, so a bunch of people just showed up to learn about storms. Before the last part of the class about net operations, they told these people they could leave if they were not interested in getting involved in amateur radio but everyone who stayed got a Skywarn ID whether they had a call sign or not.

When did that start. We had one this spring and everyone got a skywarn spotter card. While it dosnt say "CERTIFIED" they are issuing cards.

Somebody told you wrong. The SKYWARN program has never required a ham call. Sure many people involved in SKYWARN happen to be hams but I've been to classes where the majority of people there were public safety and local government employees, ie police, fire, public works.
