I'm just returning to public safety monitoring after being away from the hobby for over 20 years. I'm currently listening to Weber County via Broadcastify. When what appears to be a fire/EMS page is broadcast it usually includes a phonetic such as "zulu" (most commonly heard), "charlie", and "delta". I'm guessing these are some sort of response codes but I can't figure out what and I haven't been able to find a listing.

I'm hoping someone here can enlighten me on what these are and if there are any others.

Thanks,

Kent, K5KNT

Is the phonetic at the end of the broadcast, or the beginning? Is there a number associated with the phonetic, or is it stand alone?
I don't listen to Weber Co much, so I'm not sure witch direction to guide you in.

It is usually at the end and standalone. Something like this, "Engine [#], ambulance[ #], [nature of call, i.e. cardiac arrest], [address], Echo".
EDIT to change the example to one I just heard. I don't recall hearing "Echo" before.

Echo is dead (10-85Echo), unless it’s the end of a call sign, or the middle of one.

I would assume, that is correct. By any chance, do you know which Talk Group you are listening to? Or is it a conventional channel? Or should I not be asking?

I don't know. I was listing to a Broadcastify feed and it didn't show any information. I've now got my AirSpy R2 working with unitrunker2.x so I'll watch for that information.

If your hearing the dispatch from a computer generated voice is is coming from talkgroup 5600 on the UCA trunk and yes it's Weber Fire 1.

I've noticed that VECC now has their own version .....its female instead of male and seems to be dispatching mostly for unified fire.

I hate it. No voice emotion to grab your attention, and only vague info on the problem. I'm surprised Fire & EMTs think the dispatch info is sufficient to be prepared when they arrive.

I don't think we've answered the original question. So I ask now, what is Zulu? Charlie and Delta, I think we've covered. But, Zulu?
side note: 10-85=Victims Condition Code/ A=Fair, B=Poor, C=Serious, D=Critical, and E=Fatality. (Gallows humor, it is interesting how some responders will sometimes qualify an Echo condition, as in "Obvious Echo", or "Definitely Echo", or my personal favorite, I heard one time, "there is not doubt what-so-ever, he is Echo."

Zulu is unknown problem. Either they don’t have enough information or the caller is not giving them enough to classify the call.

I've heard a variety of these also. I think it is their way of qualifying their non-medically qualified opinion, "I'm no doctor, but..."
