The teenage driver of a car that crashed into a freight train in Weld County on Thursday has been identified as LaPorte resident Nicole Bracht, 16.
Bracht was seriously injured when her Ford Bronco crashed into a Union Pacific train around 3:10 p.m., according to a news release from the Colorado State Patrol. She was airlifted to North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley.
Kathleen Holguin, 17, of Milliken, also sustained serious injuries. She was ejected through the windshield of the Bronco and was taken by ambulance to the North Colorado Medical Center.
Chelsea Brown, 16, of Johnston was moderately injured, according to the news release.
Bracht and Brown were wearing seat belts. Holguin was not, according to the news release.
Bracht, was traveling westbound on Weld County Road 52 when she crashed into the left side of the southbound train’s lead locomotive.
She has been charged with one count of careless driving causing injury and one count of a minor driver operating a motor vehicle with an unauthorized passenger.
Sixteen-year-old drivers are permitted to have only one passenger under the age of 21.
