Spent many hours up there when I worked as a tech in cellular and two-way radio, GE, RCA. Motorola and all the odd brands.
Florecent lights would stay lit with the switch off. Couldn't use an analog voltmeter, the needle would stay pegged. Sometimes your wattmeter would read wattage without being hooked up (Older Bird with analog movement). Some base station radios would stop working when you put the metal covers back on (GE Tone remote control). One case we made up wooden doors to get the tone remote control stuff to work.
Your car alarm wouldn't work and if you had engine start cut off enabled the engine wouldn't start, good thing there was a bypass switch or you had to roll the vehicle far enough away from the RF field.
Been on many high RF enviorment sites, MT Tom, Bay Bank Springfield, and many more throughout New England and I would say Meiden Mt. is the worst becaues of all the radio station transmitters on the same Mt.
Even tried making a 2 meter ham repeater work before the duplexer days (600Khz spacing with 2 antennas).
It's a good transmit only site. Suprised no high powered TV stations are up there.
in the early days of 800 Mhz analog trunking we used Meriden Mt. to cover Long Island and had equipment on Long Island Port Jefferson to cover CT I-95.
OK I'm giving away my age and identity.
So I've worked with RF for over 40+ years and alot of RF to the brain and remain cancer free... I learned NOT to walk in front of microwave dishes.
Just the rest of the body parts are falling apart... he he and yes I am a holder of a ham license for over 45 years. (More RF). Should of called myself RFMAN.
Happy New Year and Enjoy my story...
