An Odessa man escaped serious injuries when the truck he was driving plowed into a fire station in Odessa. Fire station crews were out on assignment when the accident occured, so there were no injured fireman. The truck's drive, who was trapped for a short time, sustained only minor injuries and refused transport.
The truck struck on the south side of Fire Station No. 4 at University and Golder in Odessa, across from the Odessa College campus. While a cause for the accident has not yet been disclosed, it appeared that the driver may have been entering a parking space in the lot at a Dairy Queen that sits next door to the fire station.
City engineers were called into survey the damage and make-shifts repairs were made so that the fire truck and ambulance could enter and leave the truck bay. City engineers said that it may be several days before actual repair work is completed.
