Does anyone recognize what antenna the low profile on this car would be?

When looking into low profile antenna I found that the dual band vhf/800 antennas were much smaller than this.

Thanks

It does resemble a coffe mug!

I'm positive it is the Antennex that was posted above me. Looks too dang similar.

these things better have some magical radiating properties, cause i'm about to laugh at somebody for running a coil of wire for a VHF/UHF antenna if these antennas aren't awesome.

I see no reason why to even bother with a 'low profile' unless you're trying to work undercover, in which case you're using handhelds most likely anyways.

The Antennex Phantoms....The biggest issue I would think would be what you touched on. They are unity gain and a person would think that one would be better served by a better antenna with some gain. I guess they have their applications but still, I'd rather just use a whip of some sort for my applications.

Unfortunately, I dont have a picture but I saw some low profile antenna on the rear of an NYPD car this morning. It was not as fat and stood roughly the same height. It looked like one of that fat stubby antenna's you see on some handheld scanners. Anyone able to picture what I'm describing and/or know what it might be?

That antenna is used of MDT on the laptops. It is an 800mhz low profile.

That looks way to large to be the UHF/800/900/1900 size. It's a VHF

BTW, my compant uses maxrad wide band antennas for data, they cover the full 800/900 band and the 1900 PCS band as well.

Thats what I thought also, my neighbor next door is a Missouri State Trooper his vehicle has two of the low profile antenna's , I asked him what they used for and he told one is for the Laptop on 800hmz and the other is used as an extender.

I Still think its VHF, he may be mistaken on his antenna's.

One of the radio guys here has three of those, one for data, one for 900 (TRS) and one for VHF (Ham), so it's easy to ID them when you see them drive by every day :D

Can't be, that's a ford. I thought real cop cars had 9C1 in their discription? (and built between 1994 & 1996)

There are some new models now that they claim have 3db gain.

i dont know how they claim unity gain on those antennas, we swapped them out for a true unity gain 1/4" whip and the performance difference was amazing.

those things are nothing more than dummy loads at VHF..

now UHF and 800 are pretty decent, but considering the wavelength involved.
