I see no reason why to even bother with a 'low profile' unless you're trying to work undercover, in which case you're using handhelds most likely anyways.

BTW, my compant uses maxrad wide band antennas for data, they cover the full 800/900 band and the 1900 PCS band as well.

They are unity gain and a person would think that one would be better served by a better antenna with some gain. I guess they have their applications but still, I'd rather just use a whip of some sort for my applications.
