This may be a silly question, if so I am sorry. I am kind of new to this aspect of radio.
In many of the frequency listings, the word depreciated appears in ( ).
What does this mean?

I only check in about once a week so please don't get upset if I do not respond to a post.

'Deprecated' is used widely in software development when referring to a technique that is no longer encouraged or has been replaced by a superior technique. Wikipedia has an explanation for that term here Deprecation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia When you deprecate something, you strongly discourage its usage. That is why outdated techniques in software development are considered deprecated.

'Depreciate' The word depreciate means to belittle or play down. also means to decrease in value. If you’ve ever owned a car, then you’ll know that every year it is worth less than the previous year. In other words, it has depreciated.

Hope this helps.

Depreciated on this site typically means that the frequency could still be in use, but it is unlikely. This is usually due to the agency moving to new systems or frequencies.

They still possess the license for this frequency typically, and often times have the capability to use the frequency, but little to no radio traffic will ever be heard on it, or has been heard on it for some time.

The term "Depreciated" is no longer in use on this site, being replaced by the more appropriate "Deprecated".

As ki4wbn said, we use the Deprecated function tag to indicate that a conventional frequency, trunked talkgroup, or entire trunked system is no longer actively being used.

Thanks to everyone who replied.
Sorry about the misspelling.
I had never seen the term 'deprecated' before and I guess my mind added the 'i'.
Thanks again.
