Hi,
What is the differents between Analog and Digital Scanners? With a Analog Scanners can you pick up Trunking systems?

With Realistic PRO 2004/2006 Scanner can you pick up Trunking systems? With Realistic PRO 2004/2006 Scanner can you pick up cb radio channels on it? With Realistic PRO 2004/2006 Scanner can you pick up am/fm radio stations on it? With Realistic PRO 2004/2006 Scanner can you pick up the 800 & 900 fq?

With the GRE PSR600 Digital APCO-25 Triple-Trunking Base/Mobile Scanner can you pick up cb radio channels on it? With the GRE PSR600 Digital APCO-25 Triple-Trunking Base/Mobile Scanner can you pick up am/fm radio stations on it? With the GRE PSR600 Digital APCO-25 Triple-Trunking Base/Mobile Scanner can you pick up the 800 & 900 fq? Email me back.

Thanks,

Hello varian1, From what i understand the difference between analog and Digital is that analog goes out over the airwaves just as it is Digital is when speaking into the radio the voice is converted to 0s and 1s and goes out over the airwaves as 1s and 0s and gets converted back with a digital ready scanner to voice that you hear if not, on a analog on scanner you'll here just noise like on my psr410. Yes some analog scanners can pick up trunking systems all new ones. I think you cant track trunking on pro2004/2006 also not sure on cb radio chs, Radio station it seems the pro 2004 does not sure 2006 and yes to both on 800 and 900. The psr600 yes for picking up everything but the am/fm radio stations. Hope this helps Love and Blessing.

Additioal info: The Radio Shack 2004/2006 can receive trunked radio frequencies but it cannot track a trunk system. It can also receive CB frequencies (in the AM mode only, not SSB). Trunk system can be either analog or digital. There are several kinds of digital, P25; DMR (Motorola MotoTrbo); NXDN (Kenwood); Motorola ASTRO digital (3600 baud vs. P25 9600 baud) along with several less universal methods.

PRO-197 Digital Desktop Scanner?

Hi,
Can the RadioShack PRO-197 Digital Desktop Scanner pick up cb radio channels on it? Also can the RadioShack PRO-197 Digital Desktop Scanner pick up am/fm radio stations on it? Also can the RadioShack PRO-197 Digital Desktop Scanner pick up the 800 & 900 fq?

With Realistic PRO 2004/2006 Scanner you can pick up trunked radio frequencies but it cannot track a trunk system. What the different between picking up trunked radio frequencies but not tracking a trunk system? Email me back.

Thanks,

Trunked systems (Most of them, if not all) utilize a computer to switch the channels between one and the other. For example, you have four trunked frequencies for your county: 858.1125, 859.1125, 860.1125, and 861.1125. One of these channels is called a "control channel" which means the computers tell the radios on that system that the system is working. When agency "A" keys up their radio, the radio will beep, meaning the radio is clear to talk. When it comes across a scanner, it will come across on ANY of the four frequencies (the first available frequency) and when the person un-keys the microphone, the connection on that channel is closed. When a response is recieved, the scanner will likely display it on a different channel. If you were to program those four frequencies into the pro-2004 or pro-2006, it would just lock on the control channel with noise. If you purchase a scanner capable of tracking trunked systems, you will not hear that noise UNLESS you manually step the scanner to that channel. Make sense so far? Good. Now, to answer the first three questions you asked on this reply. Can the Pro-197 pick up CB channels? Yes, but I believe you would have to program it as a "Custom search" as I do not see an option for it on the "service search" function. Can the Pro-197 listen to AM/FM radio? No, it cannot, as there is not an option for it in the "Frequency coverage" section of the owners manual. On that same token, as to whether it will receive 800-900 mHz, Yes it will. Refer to this link Pro-197 - The RadioReference Wiki for more information. There is also a link to the owners manual from RS listed there too. That would be a great place to start.

The Pro 197 can pick up cb channels and 800 and 900 mhz freq it cant pick up am/fm radio stations. On the 2004/2006 you can program them in like any other freq but the scanner wont pick up the data from the control channel to tell you what talkgroup is talking and witch freq to go to for that traffic you would just program them in as normal conventional and scan them all but the control channel cause the scanner would stop on it and would just be noise/data you would hear its harder to follow in my opinion then just having a trunking capable scanner. Love and Blessings

Another thing to note is that some scanners use "digital" to describe the way they work; i.e. using a microprocessor to control the functions of the radio. This would have nothing to do with what the scanner can actually receive. digital can also be used in a loose way. Back in the 70's when I got my first radio controlled transmitter for my model aircraft it was termed "digital pulse"; but all it did was use pulse width modulation on an analog signal.

"Caveat Emptor".
