What Radio Shack scanner models will work in Lancaster County in Nebraska (City of Lincoln) ? I have successfully programmed a PRO-106 for a Retired Fireman and now the Shack is telling customers to call us now that there older scanners quit working because are system is now digital.

That is not true at all. Lincoln/Lancaster runs on an EDACS analog system. That system rebanded a couple months ago and the control channels that were the brains of the system changed in frequency. If you go to the RR database you will find all the current frequencies that are now in use. If you put those in any analog trunk tracking scanner that is capable of EDACS (that would be practically any scanner on the market that is dual or triple trunking) you can monitor Lincoln and Lancaster County. Now the State Patrol on the other hand did go digital and you would need a P25 scanner to monitor them. In Lincoln all the action with police and fire etc... is still on analog EDACS. I think Radio Shack either just doesn't get it, or they are looking to corner the market on selling new digital scanners. I am in Lincoln too and would be glad to help answer any further programming questions you may have. BTW, if you are the place I think you are, your shop fixed a VCR for me many years ago.

In Lincoln the Pro-163/Pro-164 models work very well because the city-county system is using an EDACs system. As was already pointed out, this system rebanded in Demember 2010, and only four or five frequencies were affected. Radio Shack however will tell you that you NEED digital scanner to listen to LPD, this is the furthest thing from the truth. Only NSP has gone digital and statewide at that, thus Radio Shack wants to sell the higher end scanner because it's better for their profit margins.

Rumor has it however that a new system is a possibility in the near future, though no time-line has been established. My guess is that a P25 system is what they'd look at, but there is nothing official, other then a comment made by Casady about a year ago, concerning possible budgeting of a new radio system at some unspecified future. Yeah, real murky, huh?

The database for Lincoln and Lancaster is up to date and has the most current information.

Here is the link to the forum discussion regarding Lincoln Lancaster County rebanding.

Mods: We should probably move this to the Nebraska forum.
