• Effective immediately we will be deleting, without notice, any negative threads or posts that deal with the use of encryption and streaming of scanner audio.

We've noticed a huge increase in rants and negative posts that revolve around agencies going to encryption due to the broadcasting of scanner audio on the internet. It's now worn out and continues to be the same recycled rants. These rants hijack the threads and derail the conversation. They no longer have a place anywhere on this forum other than in the designated threads in the Rants forum in the Tavern.

If you violate these guidelines your post will be deleted without notice and an infraction will be issued. We are not against discussion of this issue. You just need to do it in the right place. For example:

Pretty good there Hoser, I got an 80%, not too bad. But like when I got engine run qualified on the A-10, you had to get a 100% on the EMERGENCY procedures to get certified.

Earthquake procedures

I myself believe in just going with the motion of the quake. Being a native Californian, earthquakes are all in a days work.

I only got 70%. Good thing I live in Arizona. ;)

Actually I used to live in SoCal and most of the time if we had an earthquake the first thing I would do is turn on the scanner to listen to the damage reports and the second thing I would do is laugh at my wife as she crawled out from under the covers with eyes as big as dinner plates.

Anyone remember Northridge? Now THAT one scared me a bit. But only a bit (hell of a scanner event afterwards).

What to do in a California earthquake:

1. Step into a doorway
2. Be sure the previously mentioned doorway is in Texas.

Depends on what part of Arizona you live in. If I remember my Tucson history, the Santa Cruz River basically went dry after an earthquake in the 1887 dropped the rivers water table.

There is no place realy safe, some are just less prone than others.

I have to say that I disagree with some of the answers to the questions.

#1: Fighting small fires. In a event of a significant seismographic event the fire department is probably going to be tied up with rescues/major responses. You probably won't even be able to call them because the Cell phones will be tied up and the landlines more than likely will be damaged.

#2: There is a question about what you should do if you are driving down the road and a earthquake occurs. The correct answer is to pull over and buckle up....... You should already be buckled up shouldn't you?

#3: The question they should have asked for the hamsexy crowd is to make sure your HAMABOUT is charged up and your portable radios are ready to go in your wheelchair.......

They don't have to ask that - they are already all charged up and ready to respond to the latest minor traffic accident or stove fire. What they should have asked is how large of an earthquake would occur when the fat ass jumps his Hamabout over the firehose so he can set up his command post.

Ha ha ha - I kill me.
