Arriving somewhere, but not here . . .
I own on of these radios for when I deploy to Fire Base Camps. Great radio, very intuitive as far as programming. You can, with the correct cable, clone from your radio to another GPH-CMD or an older GPH.

It is the first time I have seen a major communications equipment supplier actually listen to a customer and deliver what they asked for.

Yes - TK-790's, for the most part. While the radio off the shelf is a 160 channel radio, CalFire has a modified version that is 250 channel capable. They have a special software for programming it up to 250.

Again, I have a -790 for my work also, great radio, but not the 250 channel varient.

The DPH is the replacement isn't it?

It's P-25 CAI capable out of the box. I saw one on ebay (a CMD model too) for a little over a grand. I was so tempted!

Silverado Avionics is also the sole-source GSA provider for the TK790 with the
CalFire load-out and NITA narrow-band compliance.

I've installed several in my department's apparatus. They are nice radios, but
I do NOT like the connectors for the external speaker. Very cheesy for rough fire use.

Yes, the cable is standard, but the programming software is custom and a PITA to
use to add local channels after install.

I think we paid about $1100 per radio without remote head.

Do you know if Bob has a working website yet? The only thing I have eever found for him is just an info page, but product links. Perhaps he does good enough business with CalFire that he doesn't need to advertise/sell to anybody else.

Not that I'm aware of.

We always have to pick up the phone.

The last quote was via fax for the AFG grant I just submitted.

CMD radios

You don't have to buy them from Silverado Avionics, any Kenwood or BK dealer can sell you one. We purchased the last batch from Apex MCE in Martinez.

Not exactly, the PCFs and Prevention people use 2140s and no longer receive minitors. The engines and CDF engines still carry the Bendix Kings.

The CDF firmware is a $150, 256 channel factory installed option. It requires KPG44D 1.11CDF software to program it, and the software is still DOS software.

The CDF software only offers 160 groups, but you gain a command group and the option to directly access the OST (operator selectable tone aka:MPL) from the control head. This feature is normally an up and down arrow on the control head allowing the operator to scroll through the tones.

The command group allows the operator to select channels from the 4 standard groups and create a custom group featuring whatever you want.

Well worth it if you are dropping the dough on a 90 series radio. Send it to carson and get it done.

We do UHF and Low band radios with the CDF firmware as well. It makes a great investment if you are looking for a great radio with some of the features of a ham radio.

How are you exposing the speaker connector in your install? Perhaps you should consider remoting the radios so you are not stressing the moldex plugs.
