I have 2.4m ground-mount satellite dish available and I don't watch much TV. I was wondering if anyone has an interesting idea of what to use this dish for instead, I'd like to experiment with some higher frequencies on my RTL SDR for a start. Since I remember I am interested in radio-astronomy and so perhaps someone here knows what to expect from $20 receiver and BIG dish setup.
Let me know what would YOU do if you could point this size dish anywhere covering freq up to 1700MHz.

Cheers

Put it back in use for what is was meant for.A inexpensive free to air reciever and a 50 dollar Vbox mover and a whole world of news and sports feeds come alive along with a huge amount of programming from all around the world. All 100% free and legal.

I agree with nmelfi - lots of free-to-air stuff out there from various birds! You'll need some form of aiming device but most satellite receivers have signal strength indicators. Just experiment - plenty of info on the web.

Install a wi-fi radio in place of the feed horn and mooch free wifi off your distant neighbors....
Might be illegal, but would be interesting to see how far it would work. I've seen people do this with the DBS satellite dishes.

I agree with you but I can't stand most of any TV programs. I wish to choose what to watch with no ads - on internet. I might try to get'em up on SDR though!

Could be fun to hook it up to inSSIDer and see how many networks I'd pick up here. I don't think it would be usable for a long distances unless there was another dish. Would make massive link if paired up! Even pulling 3G to distant farmlands could be easy with this tool.

Been filling that mesh dish over night but still no birds in it. It just won't fill up?

My pet pigeon is disappointed too..

Oh it's a mesh dish ... plug the holes?

FTA rocks in the states. Last night we saw the unveiling of the new Corvette and today I saw my new state governor being sworn in. So much RF, so little time...
